“Some people turn sad awfully young. No special reason, it seems, but they seem almost to be born that way. They bruise easier, tire faster, cry quicker, remember longer and, as I say, get sadder younger than anyone else in the world. I know, for I’m one of them.” —Ray Bradbury (via queen)

Smash the White Supremacist Capitalist Patriarchy: on being called-out, privilege, and social justice → mytongueisforked.tumblr.com

jewelweed:

To privileged folks I know (in this post, white dudes) who get pissy when someone tells them that their privilege gets in the way of their statements’ validity…

Someone telling you that your opinion on something (for example, feminism) is not really valued in the discussion…

“I want to gather your darkness
in my hands, to cup it like water
and drink.
I want this in the same way
as I want to touch your cheek –
it is the same –
the way a moth will come
to the bedroom window in late September,
beating and beating its wings against the cold glass,
the way a horse will lower
his long head to water, and drink,
and pause to lift his head and look,
and drink again,
taking everything in with the water,
everything.”

“She lay so still that
as she spoke

a spider spun a seamless web
upon her body

as we spoke
and then her limbs came loose

one by one
and so my own”

: The Cats Will Know → melancholynotes.tumblr.com

melancholynotes:

by Cesare Pavese

Rain will fall again
on your smooth pavement,
a light rain like
a breath or a step.
The breeze and the dawn
will flourish again
when you return,
as if beneath your step.
Between flowers and sills
the cats will know.

There will be other days,
there will be other voices.
You will…

“You Were So Pretty Before”: Gender and its Implications within Modern American Tattoo Culture → thealtlibrarian.blogspot.com

telegraphia:

fuckyeahtattoos:

If you took ancientbruises tattoo survey a while back, you can read her finished paper by clicking the link.

Yes, brilliant! Esp. these questions:

“What is it about the female body in the public arena which presents the opportunity for the invasion of privacy and personal space?  Is this only an occurrence for women who have somehow modified their bodies, naturally or artificially?  Or is it a systematic problem, a demonstration of the way American society views women and their bodies?”

I’ll never forget being in my cubicle, minding my own business, and having a supposedly revered member of the Dean staff come up and poke me, calling me ugly and expressing that if I were her daughter she would never allow that. Sigh.
